The Italian unit of the Operational Reserve Battalion of the NATO-led KFOR mission wrapped up its four-month deployment in Kosovo with a ceremony held in Peja\/Pec, according to a press release from the mission. The unit consisted of the 186th ‘Folgore’ parachute regiment as well as additional personnel from the Italian Army and Carabinieri. Colonel Giovanni Corrado, Commander of the ‘Folgore’ Regiment, was awarded a NATO Medal of Merit in recognition of his outstanding services. “I would like this to be a moment of acknowledgement of the spirit with which this splendid and diverse group of people faced and accomplished their mission”, Col Corrado said.
\nFor his part, the Deputy Commander of KFOR, Brigadier General Federico Bernacca, underlined the continuing efforts of the NATO mission throughout Kosovo to ensure a safe and secure environment with freedom of movement, for the benefit of all communities.
\nUgo Ferrero, Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Kosovo, said that Italy’s significant contribution to KFOR over the past 25 years has been one of trust and professionalism, recognised by all parties involved.
\nThe ceremony was attended by numerous civil and military authorities, including: the Commander of the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), Lieutenant General Pietro Barbano; the Commander of KFOR Regional Command West, Colonel Francesco Ferrara; the Commander of the Multinational Specialised Unit (MSU), Colonel Massimo Rosati, and the Commander of the Carabinieri Regional Command West, Major Francesco Giangreco.<\/p>\n
