In accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 1157/2019, Italian paper-format identity cards (CIC) will no longer be valid as of 3 August 2026, regardless of the expiry date shown, as they no longer meet EU security standards for identity and travel documents.
Italian nationals residing in this Consular District who still hold a paper-format identity card are invited to apply for the Electronic Identity Card (CIE), issued by this Embassy — even before the paper card’s expiry — by appointment only via the Prenot@mi platform, under “Travel Documents – CIE.”
