The Italian Embassy in Pristina was established in 2008, year of the declaration of Kosovo’s independence.
The Head of Mission is H.E. Ambassador Antonello De Riu.
Based on the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations dated April 18th, 1961, Embassy’s functions, among others, include the following:
- representing Italy in the Kosovo;
- protecting in Kosovo the interests of Italy and of its nationals, within the limits permitted by international law;
- negotiating with the Government of Kosovo;
- ascertaining conditions and developments in Kosovo and reporting back to the Government of Italy;
- promoting friendly relations between Italy and Kosovo, and developing their economic, cultural and scientific relations.
The Embassy relies on the collaboration of the ITA Office (Italian Trade Agency) and of the AICS Office in Tirana (Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation), responsible for Kosovo as well. The Defence Attaché is located in Skopje.
Through its Consular chancellery, the Italian Embassy in Pristina provides assistance and consular services to Italian and foreign citizens residing in its respective districts, which includes the whole Country.
In accordance with the Law n. 470 of 1988, Italian citizens residing abroad for a period longer than 12 months must register in A.I.R.E. (Registry of Italian Nationals Abroad): such registration must be formalised before requesting the provision of consular services. The provision of some services is subject to the verification of regular registration in A.I.R.E registries.
