President of the Italian Republic Mattarella’s good wishes on the 15th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence

The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message of good wishes to his Kosovo colleague Vjosa Osmani on the 15th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence, called for a rapid normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina and reiterated Italy’s support for Kosovo’s prospect of European integration. As the Presidency in Pristina reported in a statement, Sergio Mattarella congratulated President Osmani and the people of Kosovo, stressing the good relations between the two countries. “Our recent meeting in Rome made it possible to enhance the deep feeling of closeness that unites Kosovo to Italy, historically in the forefront in contributing to the consolidation of democratic institutions and its security, also through the KFOR mission”, the congratulatory message says. “The current European context makes it increasingly urgent to achieve a normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. I fervently hope that the European proposal for an agreement between the parties can be accepted. This is also to the benefit of Kosovo’s prospect of European integration, which Italy strongly supports”, President Mattarella’s wrote further.
